Which is the smallest width that most people would be able to distinguish without a microscope?

It really depends on the distance you are from the object. Angular resolution is the limit at which two objects can be viewed as two distinct objects. Human eyes generally can distinguish two points which are 1 degree apart, thus depending on ur distance from the object. A normal light microscope, for example, can enhance that vision to distinguishing objects as close together as 200 nm, using visible light.
