Why is my house always dirty when all I do is clean? Creative suggestions needed?

I want to know how to encourage my husband and daughter to help pick up after themselves, and (I know this is a stretch) participate in the regular cleaning without turning into a complete bitchasaurus rex! Keep in mind that this is a ten year marriage, and the daughter is 6. Now that I'm in nursing school I just can't seem to keep up, and it bothers me to distraction when the house is so dirty. I'm talking about the living room table is full of papers, cups, and other orted crap, the sink is full of dishes constantly ( we have a dishwasher and I run it daily), and there is stuff strewn around the floor. I just can't keep up. Am I alone, or have others out there been through this? Creative suggestions welcomed. ~ The Anti Martha Stewart
